Practicalities of Loving in a New Age

Project mission Statement:

Through this portrait project, I explore how queer men express tenderness and connection, using controlled light and guided, collaborative posing to create a cohesive visual narrative.

I move beyond the ubiquity of aestheticised homoerotic portraits, instead capturing raw, observable expressions of desire, intimacy, strength and vulnerability.

Those photographed are guided through a series of prompts designed to encourage interaction and openness, while also giving them agency in how their relationship is represented in the final image. These prompts help to illuminate nuances of expression that are uniquely sacred to the relatonships photographed.

Through this project, my hope is to capture the quiet complexity of contemporary queer connection. In doing so, I aim to create a body of work that feels inclusive, resonant, and hopeful – extending beyond the individuals photographed toward a broader reflection of queer relational life.

Over time, this project will expand to become a larger tapestry of portraits, mapping the ever-evolving landscape of love, longing and connection.

*An ongoing project.
